TELL SENATOR JOHN MARTY TO SAY "NO!" TO SF2595.

On Friday, March 24, 9:00 Senator John Marty's Environment and Natural Resources Committee will consider legislation to providing bonding funds to convert the North Shore State Trail. A recent feasibility study by the DNR found that $875,000 would be required to alter the North Shore State Trail to accomodate ATVs.

Minnesota Environmental Quality Board rules require completion of an "Environmental Assessment Worksheet" for any project that result in a "permanent physical encroachement of a state trail corridor". Rules also prohibit any "final government action", which includes funding, on projects under review from the Environmental Assessment Worksheet process.

SF2595, which funds a "permanent physical encroachment" on the North Shore State Trail violates Minnesota Environmental Quality Board rules.

Please contact Sen. John Marty, Chair, Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee, and tell him you expect completion of an Environmental Assessment Worksheet before any funding is provided to convert the North Shore State Trail to ATV use.
